Meet at 9:00 am in Saint André-Les-Alpes at the carpark of the supermarket “Super U” on the D955 road (see access map). From there, you will follow the guide to Colmars-Les-Alpes. He will then either organize a car drop-off at the exit of the canyon with the group, then, there no need for an access walk in this canyon (it is directly accessible from a forest track) or, for the sporty ones, take you on a hike up to the start of the canyon. Both options take the same amount of time.
After handing out and double-checking your equipment, the guide will give a safety talk concerning abseiling techniques and safety inside the canyon.
The Lance Canyon is a wild canyon running through an alpine landscape on the border of the Mercantour National Park.
The starting point is located at an altitude of about 1600 meters, right at the heart of a larch forest.
The action of the beginning section mostly takes place in the water, with jumps in larde pools and natural slides. Further down, the canyon becomes more vertical, which means alternating abseiling down – sometimes underneath waterfalls – and walking or swimming.
You will then enjoy your picnic on a large sunny slab of rock situated above a tempting pool, into which you will most likely appreciate jumping again and again…
The canyon then narrows down into a waterfall-filled gorge. You will abseil down and jump several times before reaching the final «Lance Cascade», the ending point of your trip.
The vehicles are just a 15 mn’s walk from there.
